How to cook white asparagus
In springtime when asparagus season starts there is nothing easier than to prepare fresh white asparagus at home. Here in the UK, it is easier to find green asparagus all year round in the supermarket, but the UK season starts in Springtime when they are harvested from the farm producers.
I found this amazing hand-harvested white asparagus from the Chinn family farmers wyevalleyproduce.co.uk in a local fruit and vegetable shop in my area in Chiswick, where we live.
White asparagus is low in calories, rich in vitamin C, folic acid, and antioxidants, and it is good for a healthy heart too!
Let's see how easy is to prepare them delicious.
What do you need?
✅1 Stockpot
✅1 peeler
✅1 cooking twine
Ingredients
✔2 bunches of fresh white asparagus
✔1 tsp salt
✔1 tsp sugar
Method
- Fill a stockpot with water and bring it to a boil.
- Now peel the first layer of the white asparagus, to do this you have to start from the bottom and peel to the bud top. Once you have done all the bunch, you have to split the ends with your hands till it breaks. If the asparagus are very fresh will be very easy to break the ends like this.
- Once the water starts to boil add a tbs of salt and a tbs of sugar (sugar will help to remove the bitterness of the asparagus).
- Then add the bunch into the water and try to leave the bud out of the water and boil for 10-15 minutes till tender and still firm.
- To enjoy them add a generous tbsp of Virgin olive oil #AOVE and mayonnaise.
